The Lark Ascending

"The Lark Ascending" is inspired by George Meredith’s poem about a skylark singing an impossibly beautiful, almost heavenly song. The poem also inspired a short, single-movement piece by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, written in 1914 as World War I began.

A highly detailed bird soars against rainbow-hued sunrise clouds, with light gently filtering through its feathers. The lark shares its song to mark a new day. As with all her work, the artist creates a piece stunning from afar and intricately detailed up close. Popular in nurseries and as a tribute to loved ones lost.
